Dobby Gibson is the author of Polar, which won the Alice James Award, Skirmish (Graywolf), and It Becomes You (Graywolf), which was shortlisted for the Believer Poetry Award. All three books were finalists for the Minnesota Book Award. A new full-length collection, Little Glass Planet, is forthcoming from Graywolf Press in May 2019. A new chapbook, Fickle Sun, Loyal Shadow, is now available from Sixth Finch Books.

Born in Minneapolis, Gibson earned his BA in English Literature from Connecticut College, and an MFA in creative writing from Indiana University.

Gibson's poetry and essays have appeared widely, including in American Poetry ReviewColumbia Poetry ReviewDenver QuarterlyFencejubilatThe Iowa Review, The New England ReviewPloughshares, and on National Public Radio. His poems have been anthologized in books including Good Poems American Places (Penguin Books), From the Fishouse: An Anthology of Poems that Sing, Rhyme, Resound, Syncopate, Alliterate, and Just Plain Sound Great (Persea Books), and The New Census: An Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry (Rescue Press). He is a regular visitor to colleges and universities, including Carnegie Mellon University, Harvard University, Macalester College, UMass-Amherst, and the University of Minnesota. He has served as visiting associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

He's received fellowships from the Lannan Foundation, the McKnight Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. He lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.
